Foil Sports NZ is proud to be first to introduce to Tauranga the instruction program for the latest parawing foil discipline.
Parawing combines a multitude of foiling disciplines and opens yet more possibilities and riding styles were hard to imagine just couple years ago.
WHAT IS PARAWING
The Parawing is a paragliding-like sail, very similar to a ram air kite, with lines that connect to a boom. The parawing can be controlled with only one hand both for steering and sheeting in and out, and it generates a surprising amount of power! Just like a wing foil wing, you can use the Parawing to sail around and head upwind. What makes the parawing special is the possibility of “bunch it up” (grab the lines from the boom and slide the hand toward the canopy gathering the lines and collapsing the sail) to turn a powerful sail to something like a shopping bag in your hand, so you have complete freedom of riding your foil without having to deal with a bulky flagged out wing that often gets in the way when riding swell and downwinding.

WHAT MAKES PARAWING THE NEXT BIG THING
The parawing makes downwind foil accessible to anyone. Downwind foil is one of the most fascinating foiling discipline where you can cover a great deal of ground in complete silence and freedom by using the power of the wind swell.
Most people get going on the foil doing SUP foil paddle-ups which takes lot of skills and energy, the parawing replaces the paddle ups and gives you the same amount of downwind freedom.
To eliminate all variables when learning to downwind, we also run downwind foil training doing Jetski tow-ups and radio helmet live coaching.
With the use of the parawing, downwind foiling will be accessible to a much wider audience.

WHAT DO I NEED TO PARAWING
- First thing you need is a parawing sail. Get in touch to know more about the different sails, size, and what to look out for.
- FOILBOARD: every foilboard with a bit of volume will work. If you have a wingfoilboard already you can start on that, however to maximise take off ability and allow you to ride with a smaller size parawing, a floaty, longer and narrower board like a modern SUP or mid length board is ideal.
- FOIL: Again, your light wind wingfoil foil will work. If your goal is to use the parawing to get you on waves or swell for downwind, a high aspect foil with good glide is ideal.
- SAFTEY GEAR: Board and parawing leash (any wing leash is ok). Helmet and vest.
